HTC is proud to sponsor two local students' trip to Washington, D.C., as part of the Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) program.
Paul “Trey” Richardson, representing Scholars Academy, and Allison Williams, representing Early College High School, were selected by school guidance counselors and HTC, and are in Washington this week.
Trey is writing a blog and submitting photos from the trip. Here's what he says thus far:
So far we've had an awesome time! We arrived at Washington on a smooth flight and were able to find our way to the hotel with the help of the FRS representatives.
We were able to talk to a variety of people from all over the USA about different issues affecting our rural communities.
We were split into groups for our travels tomorrow and are excited for our activities ahead of us.
Today was really amazing and packed with lots of stuff. We were able to pay our respects to the fallen soldiers buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Afterwards, we were given the opportunity to visit any of the Smithsonian museums along the National Mall. We visited the Air and Space Museum, the Natural History Museum, the American History Museum, and the Art Museum.
After all that, we stopped for dinner at Union Station and then headed off for our nighttime tour. We were able to visit the WWII memorial, the Vietnam and Korea memorials, and the Lincoln Memorial.
We've had an action-packed day and cannot wait for what's ahead.
