American Legion Post 111 to hold Oratorical Contest Horry Post 111 is pleased to invite all students grades 9 through 12 to participate in the H. W. Dare Maness High School Oratorical Scholarship Program. This yearâï¿½ï¿½s competition will be held at our new post home located at 3003 Highway 701 North, Conway, SC 29526 on January 19, 2017 at 6PM. Participants will improve self-confidence, leadership and speaking skills that will benefit later in life as well as improve oneâï¿½ï¿½s knowledge and appreciation of the US Constitution and the duties, responsibilities, rights and privileges of a U.S. Citizen. Up to $5,000 in scholarship monies are available at the state level among first through fourth place winners and an additional $3,000 for those who go on to compete at the national level. National winners will be awarded $18,000 for 1st place, $16,000 for second place and $14,000 for 3rd place. Participants must first advance at the local and quadrant level to compete at state. Competition will be judged on a) a prepared oration on some aspect of the Constitution of the United States of not less than eight minutes and not more than ten; b) an assigned topic discourse of no less than three minutes and not more than five selected from a list of assigned topics for this yearâï¿½ï¿½s contest.
